What is “Old Time”
We are often asked at public jammes “busking” what style of music is that. We tell them it’s Old Time and then you get the look. Old Time what?
Old Time is the style of music. It was born a few hundred years ago when the Irish settled in the Appalachian Mountains. It is the true roots music of America. You can still hear the Irish jigs and reels in some of the Old Time tunes.
As settlers moved across the country the music followed them. The Old time style took on different sounds as it moved from east to west. Check out our friend Jack MaGee and the SoundWagon below for some Mississippi Old Time.
Eventually other styles of music formed from the Old Time. Bluegrass is a direct descendant of Old Time. If your asked what color your grass is you tell them it’s blue.
